Health up date - October 28, 2009

Over the past couple of days, the incidence of absenteeism at Applewild has increased, though not to the levels of a typical February flu season at this point. As the Health Office has followed up with families, we have two confirmed cases of H1N1. We all understand that physicians are not always testing sick children and adults, and we also know that there are other bugs going around.

We appreciate how parents are cooperating by keeping children home if they are even marginally ill. We remain in daily contact with the city Board of Health and through them with the state. They confirm that we should continue to hold school. Of course, we will also continue to monitor the situation closely.

The Upper School Halloween dance scheduled for this Friday, however, will be postponed. We do this because at this time it seems prudent to limit the spreading of germs and to encourage students to get more rest, rather than become overtired. We know the students will be disappointed, but the Upper School Student Council and Erica will consider either an alternate date or an alternate activity in the near future.
