Admissions Procedures

PARENT VISIT

We encourage parents to visit Applewild alone before arranging a visit for their child. Please call the Admission Office to schedule a meeting and a campus tour with our Director of Admission. During your visit you will learn more about Applewild as we in turn are excited to learn more about your child.

APPLICATION

To begin the admission process, please complete and submit our application, which can be downloaded from the admission menu.  Completed applications for admission are due to the Admission Office on February 1.  Families applying for admission must also submit an application fee of $40, made payable to Applewild School. In addition, families applying for admission to grades 5 through 8 must register for their admission screening (ISEE test www.iseetest.org) through the Educational Records Bureau (ERB). Please refer to the section on admission testing for more information.

RECOMMENDATIONS AND SCHOOL RECORDS

Upon receipt of your application, you will receive a packet containing an academic records release card and teacher recommendation forms to be distributed at your child’s current school. This information will be placed in your child’s admission folder to await review by our admission committee.

ADMISSION TESTING

Upon receiving an application, the admission office will contact families regarding the scheduling of an admission screening.  Candidates for grades K-3 will be screened one-on-one with a corresponding faculty member. Candidates for grade 4 will have up to two hours to complete written assessments in math, reading and composition. Candidates for grades 5-8 will receive instructions regarding how to register through the Educational Records Bureau for their standardized admission screening (ISEE test www.iseetest.org), to be completed at Applewild. The required fee for this assessment will be paid directly to ERB.  During the screening, there will be a reception for prospective parents.

STUDENT VISIT

All candidates entering grades 4-8 should spend a day attending classes with an Applewild student host. After we receive your admission application, we will contact you to arrange your child's day visit.  Although students applying for grades K-3 are not required to spend a day at Applewild, we would be happy to arrange a visit for them.

ADMISSION DECISIONS

The Admission Committee endeavors to enroll students who have demonstrated academic achievement, possess a positive attitude toward schooling, and whose parents seek a well rounded, rigorous liberal arts education for their child. We look for candidates who will benefit from Applewild’s educational programs and who will contribute positively to the school community. The number of openings for a given grade is determined by the re-enrollment of current Applewild students. Admission decisions, during the regular enrollment process, will be mailed during the second week of March. However, any additional vacancies will continue to be filled on a rolling basis after March 10th.  Candidates completing the application process after March 10 will be notified on an individual basis.

FINANCIAL AID

Applewild’s financial aid program provides the opportunity for students whose families need financial assistance to attend Applewild. We strive to assist families with clearly demonstrated financial need. Families wishing to apply for financial aid should indicate their interest on the application form. A financial aid packet will be mailed separately upon request.  These forms should be postmarked to the Admission Office by February 4.  Decisions regarding admission and financial aid are made by separate committees. A candidate’s request for financial aid does not affect his/her chances for admission. A family’s financial aid status is kept confidential. The only people who have access to financial aid documents are the Office of Admission and Financial Aid and the members of the Financial Aid Committee.
